Pathshala
Coordinator (1)
The role of Pathshala Coordinator
is similar to the role of a school principal.
The Pathshala Coordinator reports to the
executive committee. The Pathshala Coordinator must be a dedicated individual willing
to commit 10hr/wk for 2 years. Must be
open-minded with a pleasant personality and yet be willing to enforce discipline
and Pathshala policies without prejudice and
subjectivity.
The specific duties of the Pathshala Coordinator are:
- Provide leadership and
guidance to Shala (Jain. Gujarati and Hindi)
coordinators, library coordinators, database coordinators, books and supplies
coordinators and extra-curricular activities’ (Sleep-over, camping, field trips
etc.) coordinators
- Meet
with Shala advisory board at least once a month for
first 6 months to provide updates, discuss issues and review the progress of
various Shala activities.
- Work
with advisory board and Shala coordinators to plan
Shala curriculum, extra-curricular activities and
budgets.
- Meet
with various Shala coordinators every alternate week
to review the progress of various Shala activities
including but not limited to database maintenance, library management, books and
supplies requirements and most importantly to review Shala progress, student participation and feedback
- Manage and supervise the
activities of all three Shala (Pathshala, Gujarati Shala and
Hindi Shala)
- Lead
and actively participate in volunteer recruitment efforts for all Shala
- Prepare and manage
overall and individual Shala budgets. Communicate with the executive committee
- Meet
with and present updates, budget requests to the Executive Committee if
necessary
- Work
with various coordinators and EC members to plan activities throughout the
calendar year.
- Chair parent-teacher
conference once per semester and twice per year
- Be
present at town-hall meetings if necessary

Pathshala
Treasurer (1)
The role of the Shala treasurer is
to be the single point of contact for all Shala
related financial activities including purchasing, fee collection,
reimbursements, and budget maintenance.
The Shala treasures must be a dedicated
individual willing to commit at least 5 hrs/week. Specific duties include:
- Maintain budget and keep
track of expenses
- Collect all individual
expense receipts and forward to VP, Co-VP of finance and distribute
reimbursements (Twice a week)
- Maintain records and keep
accurate accounts of fees and donations received and forward all fees and
donations to VP, Co-VP of Finance in the executive committee.
- Attend Pathshala meetings with Shala
coordinators every alternate weeks and provide updates
on budget/finance related items.

Shala Teacher
(20)
This is one of the most important positions of the
Pathshala program.
This position requires dedicated individuals who are willing to commit
5 hrs/wk. The
Pathshala teachers must be polite with good
communication skills and must possess the ability to work with students of all
ages. In addition, the Shala teachers will be required to enforce good conduct and
behavior, punctuality and discipline.
Individuals with prior teaching experience preferred. The teachers must also be proficient in
English and the languages they teach.
Jain Shala teachers must be proficient in
English and various Jain stutis. Specific duties include:
- Map
curriculum to Shala calendar
- Come
to each class fully prepared and at least 15 minutes in advance
- Promptly update the
Pathshala database with student information
(attendance, homework etc.) after the class is over
- Prepare and administer a
quick assessment test to map students to the appropriate levels
- Prepare and distribute
homework exercises and projects on a regular basis
- Grade homework
exercises, projects and exams, and prepare report cards
- Attend and actively
participate in teacher training sessions organized by JCNC
- Lead
and actively participate in class-room parent volunteer recruitment
- Establish a means to
communicate with parents through a monthly newsletter/update letter
- Work
with Books and Supplies Coordinator, and library coordinator to obtain required
books and reading materials for students

Shala Coordinator (Jain, Gujarati and Hindi) (3)
The role of each Shala coordinator
is similar to that of a department head.
Each Shala coordinator is responsible for
his/her Shala activities. Each Shala
coordinator will be knowledgeable in his/her Shala
teachings and curriculum. The Shala coordinator must be a dedicated individual with
commitment and ability to work with children of all ages. The individual must be patient, open-minded
with a pleasant personality and yet willing to enforce discipline and Shala policies with prejudice and subjectivity. Specific duties include:
- Prepare curriculum for
all grade levels
- Map
and assign teachers to various grade levels
- Develop and administer
a quick assessment test to grade, map and assign students to appropriate grade
levels
- Meet with Shala teachers periodically (twice a month) to review Shala activities, discuss issues and review progress
- Update Pathshala PR coordinator of upcoming events (exams, results
parent – teacher meetings etc.)
- Meet with Pathshala coordinator twice a month to report on issues,
activities and progress of each Shala
- Amicably resolve
conflicts between parents and teachers
- Chair parent-teacher
meetings once a semester or as needed
- Lead and actively
participate in teacher and volunteer recruitment activities
- Manage their respective
team of shala volunteers
- Ensure orderly conduct
by students, teachers, parents and volunteers
- Review and approve
course curriculum, distribution materials and other Shala related content prior to distribution
- Ensure prompt updates
and database entry of student data by teachers

Pathshala Public Relations Coordinator (1)
The Pathshala Public Relations
Coordinator is responsible for all outbound communications. The Pathshala PR
Coordinator will be a dedicated individual willing to commit approximately 5 hrs/week.
The PR Coordinator will be computer and internet savvy. Specific duties include:
- Sending emails to Shala students, parents and JCNC community about upcoming
Shala events including upcoming field trips, camping
trips and sleepovers.
- Work
with PR representative from Executive Committee to include Shala information in JCNC newsletter
- Actively participate in
volunteer recruitment activities

Library Coordinator (1)
The role of the library coordinator will be to develop, lead
and manage all activities with respect to the library. The library coordinator will work very
closely with all shala coordinators and Pathshala coordinator to plan and coordinate the activities
and requirements. The Library
Coordinator will be a dedicated individual willing to commit approximately 10
hrs/week Specific duties include:
- Publish library working
hours and ensure that adequate resources are allotted for smooth operation of
the library
- Lead
and actively participate in volunteer recruitment activities
- Lead
and manage the library volunteers
- Develop and implement a
process for check-in and check-out of books, tapes and other library materials
- Develop a process for
managing late items
- Work
with other departments to update and manage the library database
- Periodic check of books
and tapes to assess wear and tear and order new/replacements
- Provide regular updates
to Pathshala coordinator
- Work
with Shala coordinators to order new books/tapes for
student and JCNC use

Event Coordinator (6)
The role of the Pathshala event
coordinator is to plan, execute on plan and manage the entire event along with
the help of other Shala and JCNC volunteers and
committees. Must be willing to
coordinate and/or help coordinate 2 events/year. Primary duties include:
- Work with various Shala coordinators to plan an event such as sleepover,
camping, field trips etc.
- Work with Pathshala coordinator and EC to avoid and/or resolve any
scheduling conflicts
- Work with various other
EC members for facilities, technology, PR and other requirements depending on
the type of event.
- Be
the single point of contact for that event
- Work with Pathshala coordinator and treasure for budget approvals and
expense tracking

Enrollment Coordinator (1)
The Enrollment Coordinator is to plan and lead the process of
enrollment and registration for various activities including Shala registration, sleepover registration, cultural and
other extra-curricular activity registrations.
Must possess attention to detail skills and be willing to commit 5 hrs/week. Primary
duties include:
- Develop and
institutionalize the enrollment and registration process for use at all Pathshala activities and events as required.
- Work
with technology committee to develop a web-based enrollment/registration system
- Supervise all
enrollment/registration activities during the registration process at all Pathshala events where registration is required.
- Work
with other Pathshala coordinators to develop
registration/enrollment forms and requirements
- Work
with other Pathshala coordinators to prepare a
comprehensive registration/enrollment package to be distributed during
registration/enrollment
- Recruit and manage
enrollment/registration volunteers
- Collect and record all
filled registration forms and collected fees
- Submit record to Pathshala coordinator

Snack Coordinator (1)
The role of the snack coordinator is to manage and supervise
the planning, procurement and distribution of snacks during Shala hours of operation.
The primary duties include:
- Work with Pathshala coordinator and decide snacks to be distributed
during Shala breaks
- Manage the procurement
of snacks through donations or purchase
- Plan and execute
distribution of snacks in an orderly fashion
- Ensure that students
keep the dining hall clean during and after the snack breaks
- Ensure that the dining
hall is vacated of all left-overs and trash properly
disposed off leaving the hall clean and tidy.

Books and Supplies
Coordinator (1)
The role of the books and supplies coordinator is to ensure
that the Shala is adequately stocked with all required
materials such as books, office supplies, markers, erasers etc. This position requires a commitment of at least 4 hrs/week.
Primary duties include:
- Track textbooks and
reference book inventory for all Shala and all levels
- Coordinate with
treasurer and Shala coordinators to order
new/replacement books
- Keep
an adequate supply of markers, erasers and other supplies to ensure
uninterrupted class room teachings

Volunteer (17)
The role of the Shala Room volunteer is to assist the teachers in various
Shala and various levels. The volunteers must be dedicated and willing
to commit at least 3 hrs/week. Primary duties include:

The role of snack volunteers is to assist in planning,
procurement and distribution of snacks as directed by the snack

Library Volunteer (2)
The role of the library volunteer is to assist the library
coordinator with all library activities as defined and described by the library
coordinator. The library volunteer will
also be required to be present during Pathshala
hours. Must be willing to commit 5 hrs/week. Primary
duties include:
- Check-in and check-out
of books, tapes and other library materials
- Periodic check of books
and tapes to assess wear and tear and order new/replacements
- Follow-up on late items
- Provide regular updates
to Library coordinator
- Work
with Shala coordinators to order new books/tapes for
student and JCNC use
- Obtain and arrange
donated/purchased books.

Registration Volunteer (6)
The role of the registration volunteer is to “man” the
registration booth during registration hours for various activities including
Shala registration, sleepover registration, cultural
activity registration and other extra-curricular activity registrations. Must possess attention to detail skills and
be willing to commit 5 hrs/day for at least 2
days. Primary duties include:
- Man
the registration table during registration days.
- Distribute registration
forms, and answer questions
- Collect and record all
filled registration forms and collected fees
- Submit daily record to
Pathshala coordinator

Event Volunteer (10)
The role of event volunteers is to assist in the various
Pathshala events as directed by the event
coordinator. The volunteer must be
willing to assist full time at least 2 events per year.

Computer Volunteer (2)
The role of the computer volunteers is to manage and maintain
the Pathshala and library web pages, files and
database. Must be
knowledgeable with all aspects of database creation, maintenance and
management. SQL and JAVA
knowledge preferred. Primary duties
include:
- Work with Pathshala coordinator to design, develop and build a
user-friendly and maintenance friendly database which can be used for
registration, student data records such as attendance, homework, exams, projects
etc. along with reporting capabilities
- Work with the EC
Technology Committee to design, develop and maintain web pages related to Pathshala and library at www.jcnc.org site.
- Must be able to assist
db users who may not possess adequate skills with patience
- Ensure periodic
back-ups
- Willing to trouble
shoot at odd hours

Advisory Board Member (5)
The role of the advisory board is to provide leadership and
guidance to ensure that the Pathshala operates
smoothly and without any controversies, and conflicts in accordance with the
principals of Jainism. The advisory
board will meet once a month with Pathshala
Coordinator and his/her team. The
advisory board will also be available for town-hall meetings and other
parent-teacher meetings. The advisory
board will ensure that the curriculum, textbooks and reference materials are in
accordance with the principles of Jainism and JCNC policies. The advisory board should not get involved in
the day-to-day activities of Pathshala.
