Things to Do

“Fasting is war against habit, against slavery. If we want freedom from slavery we have to fight. But don’t fight with others. Fight with yourself.  [Muni Sushil Kumarji]

During Paryushan, take accounts of the past year. Analyze what you have done by mind¸ by word and by body. Did you do good or bad? What kind of result did you get? Violence, attachment, anger, jealousy, greed – think, what is your slavery.

Make a decision for the new spiritual year – I will be humble, I will be kind, I will not think I am superior and others are inferior. Decide one thing and be firm in that.

Thanks & Regards,

Religious Committee 2013

Paryushana (or Paryusan) is one of the two most important festivals for theJains, the other being Diwali. Normally Svetambara Jains refer it as Paryushana, whileDigambara Jains refer it as Das Lakshana. Paryushan means, literally, "abiding" or "coming together". It is believed that all the devas do Ashtprakari Puja of Tirthankara and it takes them 8 days to do this ashtaprakari puja. this is called Ashtanhika Mahotsav, so at the very same time Jains celebrate it as Paryushan.
